How to find (and actually buy) the perfect flight

I think that we can all agree on one thing:
One of the hardest parts of stepping into travel is actually BUYING THE TICKET.
I can't tell you how many times a flight cost has stopped me from going somewhere I wanted.
But no more, my friend. We are doing this.
Here are a few simple tips to help you make your dream a reality. ❤
1. INCOGNITO MODE!!!!
I have spent hours searching for flights and discovering tricks for keeping costs low. Searching in incognito mode is my number one hack.
Here's a little story to demonstrate why:
One year ago, a friend and I were booking flights to San Diego. We browsed flights and decided to sleep on the decision for one night. The next day, we were chatting again about the trip.
Panicked, he told me the one we had selected had gone up. I pulled up the same flight on my phone. The price was the same on my phone.
Then it hit me. He was not in incognito mode. I had told him this tip the day before, but he forgot.
It's crazy, but this is a true story. Google knows when you start looking at trips. It knows where you are planning to go (yes it's super creepy) and it will jack up the prices. So, trust me when I say, GO INCOGNITO.
Sidenote: Any time I am looking up anything to do with a trip, I go to incognito mode. Once I am certain I am making a purchase(s), then I will occasionally copy the link into my normal browser. This makes it nice if you have cards or autofill on your regular browser.
2. Commit
My whole life, I said I wanted to go to London. After speaking with a mentor of mine, I decided to stop dreaming and start doing. I committed to myself and two friends that I would buy a ticket with my next paycheck.
And I did. And I was super duper scared when I did it. But I did it.
Did I think I was insane while I did it? Yes.
But, again, I still did it.
I had made a commitment to myself and I was not backing out. If you can't keep a promise to yourself, can you keep a promise to anyone else?
(The answer is no.)
You can do it, love. You have all the power to make it happen. The only person stopping you is you.
If it aligns for you to go someplace, commit to making it happen. And then it will happen. Crazy how that works...
3. Skiplagged
**Disclaimer** I have enjoyed using this app to schedule flights within the United States. I can't vouch for how it compares in other countries.
Skiplagged is an app I've used to find cheaper flights. Honestly, I feel really sneaky when I use it, which is really fun. :)
When you put a location in Skiplagged, you will see many direct flights that are probably similar to something you'd find on Google Flights. Ignore those.
The magic of Skiplagged has to do with the flights that have layovers.
For example, last year I woke up in Salt Lake City, Utah, and decided to go to Dallas, Texas. I entered the Dallas Airport (DFW) in Skiplagged and it showed me a flight to Denver, Colorado with a layover in Dallas.
A trip from Utah to Colorado through Texas would be really long for a person genuinely trying to Denver, so the airfare was cheap (about $40 on the day of!).
I purchased the ticket, flew to Dallas, and skipped the connecting flight to Denver. Wahla! Magic. We love to see it.
Alrighty, that's all for now!
I hope some part of this article helps you find the nerve to press "purchase" on that flight you've been dreaming of.
